Entering Indonesia: Visa, Entry Rules & the All Indonesia Card
Published ByMari Liveaboard
Every guest joining Mari needs a valid passport, proof of onward travel, the right visa and a completed All Indonesia arrival card. Here is the short version, with the detail below.
Quick Answer: Your Entry Checklist
- Passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date, with at least one blank page
- Return or onward ticket out of Indonesia
- Visa sorted before you fly: visa-exempt (ASEAN citizens only), e-VOA applied for online, or visa on arrival (IDR 500,000)
- All Indonesia arrival card submitted within 72 hours before landing, free of charge
- QR code from the card saved on your phone or printed
- Bali only: tourism levy of IDR 150,000 per person
- Diving insurance and certification card packed for the boat
Passport and Onward Ticket Requirements
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Indonesia. Immigration also expects at least one blank page for the visa stamp.
You also need a return or onward ticket. Officers can ask to see it at check-in or on arrival, so keep a copy on your phone. Most Mari guests fly out of Indonesia a day or two after the cruise, so this is usually already covered.
Check your passport dates now. An expiry date inside the 6-month window can mean you are refused boarding or entry.
Visa Options: Exempt, e-VOA or Visa on Arrival
Citizens of ASEAN countries enter visa-free for 30 days. Citizens of about 90 other countries, including the US, UK, most of Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, can get a visa on arrival (VOA) or apply for an e-VOA online.
| Option | Who | Cost | Stay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa-exempt | ASEAN citizens | Free | 30 days, no extension |
| e-VOA | Eligible nationalities, applied online before travel | IDR 500,000 | 30 days, one extension of 30 days |
| Visa on arrival | Eligible nationalities, bought at the airport | IDR 500,000 | 30 days, one extension of 30 days |
We recommend the e-VOA. You apply on the official portal at evisa.imigrasi.go.id, receive the approval by email and skip the visa queue on arrival. Use only that site. Third-party portals add service fees.
A VOA extension is made at an immigration office. The maximum stay is 60 days. Your cruise will fit well inside the first 30 days for most itineraries.
The All Indonesia Arrival Card Explained
The All Indonesia card is a single digital form that every international traveler must complete before entering Indonesia, infants included. It has been mandatory since October 1, 2025. It is free, and it does not replace your visa.
The card replaces the paper immigration arrival card, the electronic customs declaration and the health declaration. You complete one form and show one QR code on arrival.
When to fill it in
Submit it within 72 hours (3 days) before you arrive. An earlier submission is not accepted.
Step by step
- Go to the official portal at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id or use the All Indonesia mobile app.
- Enter your personal and passport details.
- Add your travel dates, visa type and flight number.
- Add where you will stay on arrival, usually your hotel before the cruise.
- Answer the customs and health questions.
- Submit, then save the QR code from your email or the app. Take a screenshot and carry a printed copy as backup.
Group registration is available for people on the same flight, which is useful for couples and dive buddies.
If you skip the card, you can still complete it at the airport, but expect delays. Do it before you fly.
Customs, Health and Other Arrival Notes
The customs and health declarations are now part of the All Indonesia card, so there is no separate form. Answer the questions honestly. Allowances for cash, alcohol, tobacco and goods change, so check the All Indonesia portal or Indonesian Customs before you pack.
Diving gear, cameras and dive computers are normal luggage for our guests. Declare any item the form asks about.
If you travel to Bali on the way, foreign visitors pay a separate Bali tourism levy of IDR 150,000 per person. It applies in Bali only and is not part of the All Indonesia card. You pay once per trip. How to pay is explained below.
How to pay the Bali levy
- Go to the official Love Bali site at lovebali.baliprov.go.id. Use only this site. Look-alike sites charge much more than the official fee.
- Pay before you arrive in Bali. This is strongly encouraged and saves time at the airport.
- Pay with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, UnionPay, bank transfer, virtual account or QRIS. An online processing surcharge of about IDR 4,500 may apply.
- Check your email for the voucher with a QR code. Look in your spam folder if it does not arrive.
- Save the QR code on your phone and keep a screenshot of your payment.
If you forget, you can pay at the payment counter at Bali airport or seaport, or at registered hotels, travel agents and attractions during your stay. Do not pay twice if the QR code is late. Show your payment screenshot instead.
Holders of diplomatic, student, KITAS, KITAP and some other visas are exempt. Tourists are not.
Park and port fees for the cruise are paid onboard and are not part of entry formalities.
Getting to Your Mari Departure Port
Most guests enter Indonesia at a major international airport, then take a domestic flight to the embarkation city of their cruise. Airport or hotel transfers at embarkation and disembarkation are included with your cruise.
Book your domestic flight with a generous buffer. Flights can be delayed, and we advise arriving at least a day before departure. Your cruise confirmation lists the exact embarkation port and time.
Have these ready on your phone:
- Passport and visa or e-VOA approval
- All Indonesia QR code
- Onward ticket
- Dive certification card and diving medical insurance (DAN or equivalent)
- Cash for onboard payments, including park and port fees
